These are stage costumes that were used in the 1980s.
These are toys in the 1960s-80s.
These are propaganda posters during world war 2.
I visited the Singapore National Museum. I learnt things i did not know about Singapore. Besides the exhibition about Lee Kuan Yew, the exhibition of the vintage children toys and voices of Singapore; that was a gallery of music, performances, television and theatre. The children toys were simple in design and use. Comparing to what kids play with in this generation (electronics), i would say they are missing a lot. Also, this plays a part in their childhood and and i would say it'll be a pretty boring one. Toys back then were cute and relied on imagination, it was fun.
I ended the trip with the last room, where there was a projector screen showing old Singapore drive-thru theatres. As we sat in a car or truck, feeling how it felt to be in a drive through a couple of decades back. It was a nostalgic experience. I wish there was a drive-through in this millennium.
Instead of painting, I decided to cut black paper. I was inspired by a cat but like an alien-ish, alice i wonderland cat and started cutting. And here's the end product.
Colour
I was inspire by indonesian mask, 'Topeng' for my contrast project. As the topeng came in many colours and as a child i was quite scared of them, whenever i walk towards the the kitchen in my house in Indonesia i would always have to past this wall with a topeng hung on it. However, now that i'm older, i find it interesting annd start to appreciate the craftsmanship.
And here is the end product :)
Rihanna in Tom Ford
Rihanna is one a child icon i'm inspired by. I was working on dress that was inspired by this dress. The piece that i was mainly attracted to was the silver piece. I wasn't a fan of the white flowy bottom but i really like the top.
At the same time, i came across this image. "gang in tartan" i call.
And this was what i came up with, it's still in the process but it's a silhouette i'll work around it.
In 2D Fundamentals class, my lecturer handed me a small book that was textured. He told me he got it from Thailand. Here are some images i took. The book was illustrated(painted) and told a meaningful story.
It read,
" This is smiling face. This is a frowning face. If everybody is happy, the world will go round. Round and round, that the universe becomes one. No more tears. No more fears. Love will make you happy. Love is all we need. But don't forget! Love is to give and forgive."
I wanted to know more about the book and decided to research about it. The artist is John Gallery and he is an American living in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
I got to know more about him as by reading from his website.
This website is like a journal of John Gallery, answering all questions that people have and letting them know what its life like for him in Chiang Mai.
These are some of his works that can be purchased online.
I went to Vivocity and found some sculptures i found interesting. I have always seen them when i went there but never stopped to think where they were from.
This is an image i took of the 'Flower Tree' installation done by Korean artist, Choi Jeong Hwa. I love the this. It was colorful and big and made me smile. It was like a bouquet of flowers but on a tree and the flowers were of different types of flowers gathered together.
It is very suitable to place these works at the open space of Vivocity as it makes you feel energize and optimistic and it goes well with the architecture of the shopping mall itself.
After some outdoor snaps, i came across a man who make balloon characters in the mall.
Before he sat to begin drawing eyes on his creation, he noticed me watching him twist the balloon. He asked me, "You know what this is right?" and i said "A frog?" and paused. He said "Hmm, well something similar." And i answered, "Ninja Turtle!!" Hahah.
I didnt know that the features on the balloons were all drawn on till i saw him using a marker.
This were his finishing products for sale. It's similar that we can tell which characters they are.
Here's Bob the Minion, Snow White and Ariel. The colors attract children and his skills attract adults.
