Lee Alexander McQueen

One of the things mentioned in during class was designers 'breaking the rules'. Alexander McQueen's Armadillo Boots was mentioned as reinventing his own designs of shoes that weren't of the norm. These shoes were showcased during his Spring/Summer 2010 show that was titled, 'Platos Atlantis'. As quoted, "Because of their unique and complex construction, they were never produced so only 21 pairs of these shoes from the show are in existence. Several examples of them are currently on display in the Savage Beauty exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, a retrospective of Alexander McQueen’s work." (credit:link)

Here is video of his collection. It's very surreal.

Apart from the boots displayed at the museum, three additional shoes were produced this year and they were auctioned off and the proceeds went to UNICEF.

The highest bidder of £190,000 went to Taylor Kinney(her fiance), for Lady Gaga.

Alexander McQueen is a designer i admire. His shows are very theatrical and magnificent. His works are incomparable. I learnt more about him after watching his documentary film, "McQueen and I"

The film interviewed his brother, ex-boyfriend, friends, co-workers, models, and Isabella Blow and her husband. Isabella was one of his very close friends and she even helped him with his career. McQueen was very talented and the video showed his imaginative and wonderful, dark mind.

His fashion shows are always breath-taking and controversial. In the movie, everybody talks about how he was so busy and stressed during his years of designing. He always challenged himself from each collection. It was never the same thing, it was always different but had his essence in them.

OTHER SHOES THAT 'BREAK THE RULES'

These shoes are called the Guarachero Boots. Designed by the Japanese brand Comme Des GarconsAt first glance, i thought they were inspired by ski boots but no, they were Guarachero, which meant Mexican pointy boots that are a style of pointed shoes and are popular footwear for men in parts of Mexico.

These shoes are made by Architect and designer Zaha Hadid in collaboration with United Nude. The shoes take 24 hours to make using 3D printing technology. These shoes look like something off a video game or sci-fi alien queen shoes. I really like sharp silhouette of it.

These were made by dutch fashion designer, Iris Van Herpen for her 'Biopiracy' collection. The shoes were in collaboration with United Nude. This shoes were designed uniquly defying all rules. Not only were they cohesive with the collection of outfits, they elongated the models legs.
